In a recent conversation with a large group of people, we were asked if photographers were concerned that AI could take over our jobs.
In short, my answer was "In no freakin way am I concerned in the slightest." Let me explain.
AI isn't real. That's it. That's my explanation. It's not friggin real.
Is it fun to do the trends of using something that resembles your face in a horror movie? Or skydiving, or climbing a mountain? FOR SURE it is fun!
But it's not real. Everyone knows it's not real. So why should I be worried?
I don't think the vast majority of people will hang AI generated photos of their family on their wall. I think that's absolutely INSANE.
My job is more than clicking a button on a camera. And it's more fulfilling than uploading a photo into some AI program.
9 times out of 10, I make friends with my clients. I see them yearly. I watch their family grow and their children grow up. I get hugs and high fives. Sweet tiny voices chattering away while we walk. Me capturing the moments of you with your children. Freezing your babies for that moment in time for you to look back on authentically in your older age. AI can't take that from me. Why would I be worried?
Fact of the matter is, we live in a disposable society. Fast times. I get that. I'm not stupid. I also understand that photography isn't a necessity. Not everyone can afford photo sessions. But even then, I can't see people hanging fake photos on their walls. It just won't happen.
No, I'm not concerned. Because the people who want to pass of AI as real, or think it looks as real as my photos of your family...aren't my client. YOU are my client. And I'm forever grateful to get to see you! <3
